Cartagena Photo – Tour Tips

Hello, how are you?

I want to help you make the most of your vacation and ensure your photo session is an amazing experience. To keep everything smooth and enjoyable, here are some important tips that will make your photo tour much more comfortable.

Remember, the photo tour is done on foot, walking through the streets and stopping at the most beautiful spots. That’s why it’s best to travel light and bring only what you really need.

The best time for photos is early in the morning! From 7:00 am to 10:00 am the light is softer, the weather is more pleasant, there’s less humidity, and fewer people around — perfect conditions for amazing pictures.

After 10:00 am until 4:00 pm, the heat, humidity, and larger crowds can make the photo session more challenging.

But remember, we can always make it work — in the end, you decide the time that suits you best!

Important Recommendations

We’ll be walking for about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the tour you choose. Please bring comfortable shoes for walking (easy to slip on and off) and your nicest shoes for the photos.

Don’t forget sunscreen—it’s almost always sunny.

Stay hydrated. The weather is hot and humid. If you forget to bring water, no worries—we can buy some at any local shop.

Bring wet wipes or something to freshen up, so you’re always photo-ready.

If you tend to sweat a lot, I suggest wearing darker colors so sweat marks don’t show on your shirt.

If you have one, bring a small portable fan to keep cool.

Carry a small, light bag or backpack for your things—something practical, since we’ll be walking and taking photos along the way.

You can easily use up to 2 outfits: one for the colorful houses and streets, and another one for the city walls (I recommend bright colors).

Keep in mind there are only two public restrooms available (cost: $2,000 COP or about $0.25 USD).

    • The first is right before starting the photos on the wall.

    • The second is near the Clock Tower.

    • There are also many restaurants and bars with restrooms, and we can use them with a small purchase.

ABOUT THE TOUR

This has been designed to give you a comfortable, varied, and very special experience. We chose this area of the city for several reasons:

It’s a quiet zone, with fewer people and no cars, making it much easier to take photos without interruptions.

It is located very close to the wall, one of Cartagena’s most iconic and photogenic landmarks.

It also offers the chance to use up to two different outfits, allowing you to get photos with varied styles in a single tour.

Step-by-step experience:

Starting point: The tour begins at the Church of Santo Domingo, located in Plaza Santo Domingo, where you’ll also see the famous Botero sculpture.

Walking tour: We’ll stroll through the streets around the church, surrounded by colorful houses, flowered balconies, and charming colonial streets.

Outfit change: You’ll have access to a public restroom where you can change outfits before heading up to the wall.

The Wall: We’ll continue the tour along the historic wall, enjoying its beauty and the unique views of the sea and the city. The tour ends near the Hotel Charleston or the San Pedro Claver Church, two emblematic landmarks that provide a perfect final backdrop for your photos.

This tour combines the colonial essence of Cartagena with the majesty of its wall, giving you unique memories in two distinct but equally magical settings.
